In Celebration of our Graduating SVIN Fellows

In Celebration of our Graduating SVIN Fellows, we have dedicated the section this month to highlighting our SVIN graduating fellows who have taken the time to share their future plans with us.  Whether they are completing a Vascular Neurology fellowship on their way to their Neuroendovascular Fellowship to those completing their two years of Neuroendovascular fellowship and stepping out to their first practice.  We have selected several testimonials and acknowledgements to share from our esteemed graduates below.  Congratulations again to everyone including those who we may have missed as they embark onto the next part of their journey!

Eugene Lin, MD

Graduating Neuroendovascular Surgery Fellows:

Ahmed Alshanbari, MD completed his fellowship at St Mary’s and will be heading to Medical City – Riaydh.

Amrinder Singh, MD completed his fellowship at JFK Medical Center Hackensack Meridian Health in NJ and will be heading to UHS Wilson Medical Center.

Brendan Eby, MD completed his fellowship at Emory University in Georgia and will be heading to Washington University in St Louis.

“I want to thank this society and it’s incredible members for their mentorship as I celebrate my graduation. This society solidified my interest and fostered my training when many around me felt this was impossible. Thanks, in particular to my mentors here at Emory, and Drs. Sunil Sheth and Ashu Jadhav for their career mentorship from afar. I hope to represent this society and carry forward it’s mission to my patients and trainees as I join Washington University in St. Louis as their first Endovascular Neurologist.”

Charles A. Miller, MD completed his fellowship at MedStar Washington Hospital Center/Georgetown and will be heading to Washington University.

“I want to thank Dr. Rocco Armonda and all the staff at Georgetown University-MedStar Washington Hospital Center for their expertise and mentorship during this past year. They truly are advancing the frontier of neuroendovascular surgery. I look forward to my Cerebrovascular/Skull base fellowship at University of Washington. After UW, I will join the staff at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to continue serving our fighting forces. In addition, I am forever grateful for Dr. Chris Neal and Dr. Randy Bell for their guidance during my neurosurgery residency.”

Daniel Vela-Duarte, MD, MSCR completed his fellowship at the Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute, Baptist Hospital of Miami. He will be joining the Cleveland Clinic Florida – Indian River Hospital in Vero Beach, FL.

Imran Farooqui, MD completed his fellowship at Texas Stroke Institute in Dallas/TX and will be heading to HCA Houston.

Jay Dolia M.D., M.Sc completed his fellowship at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and is headed to Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC – Florence).

John-Andrew Cox, MD completed his fellowship at Medical College of Wisconsin and headed to Infirmary Health.

“Drs. Brian-Fred Fitzsimmons, Marc Lazzaro and John Lynch on the Neuroendovascular side and Drs Vijay Johnson and Pramod Gupta on the Neuro ICU side were instrumental in getting me where I am today. I could not have been more proud and am immensely grateful to have had the opportunity to work with and learn from this group over the last 7 years.”

Katarina Dakay, DO completed her fellowship at Westchester Medical Center at New York Medical College training under Drs.Chirag Gandhi, Fawaz Al-mufti and Gurmeen Kaur. SHe will be joining Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, in Chicago, IL..

Kaustubh Limaye, MD completed his fellowship at The University of Iowa and heading to Indiana University School of Medicine.

“The University of Iowa program is a phenomenal program which has a rare blend of volume, mentorship and academic excellence that only a few programs in this country can boast of. Six neuroendovascular surgeons (two each from Neurology,Neurosurgery and Radiology) of varied backgrounds and seniority makes this program a great program for trainees. I think the program has given me solid fundamental foundation for a future academic practice.

Paul C. Peterson, MD, FACEP completed his fellowship at CentraCare Saint Cloud Hospital and will be continuing his career at the same institution.

Kavit Shah, MD is graduating from UPMC and will be heading to Advocate Aurora – St Luke’s.

Muhammad H Niazi, MD FACP completed his fellowship at University of North Carolina and heading to Wellspan Health Systems – Pennsylvania.

Muhammad Zeeshan Memon, MD completed his fellowship at Rutgers/ University Hospital and heading to UTMB

Sami Al Kasab, MD completed his fellowship at Medical University of South Carolina and will be continuing his career there.

Saif Bushnaq, MD completed his fellowship at Mercy Health St Vincent Medical Center and heading to Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

“Reaching the end of this journey has been a dream come true with tons of great memories. I am completing my Neuroendovascular surgery fellowship at St. Vincent Hospital with the best mentors (Dr. Zaidat and Dr. Lin). I want to thank my lovely, beautiful family, awesome mentors, colleagues, friends, and everyone I have crossed paths with during my training journey. I am very excited to start my next chapter in the stroke and neuro-intervention division at Texas Tech University Health sciences Center School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas.”
